The European Space Agency's (ESA) most recent rocket was launched into space in 2012, equipped with technical products manufactured by Amorim Cork Composites. The Vega rocket was built to carry cargo up to 2,5 tonnes in weight and place it in orbit at an altitude of between 300 and 1500 km. To prevent the rocket from overheating, cork was placed in the nose cone and other areas sensitive to temperature. As a result of the natural thermal and vibration insulation characteristics and fire-resistance, TPS (Thermal Protection Systems) cork composites play an important role in the launch of rockets and spacecraft.
