Built with 5500 m² of cork supplied by Corticeira Amorim, the Portuguese Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai was a surprise for its originality. The design, by architect Carlos Couto, was developed in harmony with the «Better City, Better Life» concept, by using cork as the solution for an environment-friendly construction in the future. Corticeira Amorim materials were applied as an aesthetic element, on the interior coverings and in technical solutions. On the façade, 3640 m² and over 28 000 kg of expanded insulation corkboard by Amorim Isolamentos were used, which is considered to be the most environment-friendly insulation solution in the world. Wicanders® flooring by Amorim Flooring was applied, with a cork appearance, to 1100 m² of the visitor and official areas. In the offices, the Woodcomfort (cork with a wood appearance) line was used. For technical insulation solutions, 780 m² of Acoustic Core Materials (cork and rubber), by Amorim Cork Composites were installed.

The Portuguese Pavilion won the Design Award, given by the International Exhibition Bureau and the Architecture Award for Best Public Work, in a vote by subscribers of the newspaper Construir. Almost five million people, the equivalent to around half of the Portuguese population, visited the pavilion in what was the largest universal exhibition ever.
