An area of 2,000 m2 - the entire exterior area of the Portuguese Pavilion - was completely covered with cork, in the biggest-ever temporary installation using this exceptional material, during the 3rd Archi Summit, the only trade event for architects, engineers and designers held in Portugal.

The project was coordinated by the renowned architect, Manuel Aires Mateus, and was co-designed by SAMI studio in Setúbal.

For this ambitious project, Amorim Isolamentos provided 5,000 blocks of expanded cork agglomerate, which occupied an area corresponding to the well-known concrete "canopy" of the Portuguese Pavilion, an emblematic work of Portuguese architecture, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira for Expo 98.

In addition to unequivocally reinforcing the Portuguese flavour of the project, cork was selected because it is a 100% natural material, sustainable, easy to assemble and due to its unique characteristics, could respond to the project’s temporary nature, while giving it character and solidity.
