Corticeira Amorim actively participates in various national and international collaborative platforms, in conjunction with entities and organizations that pursue significant activities to promote sustainable development. A key example is the Global Compact Network Portugal, the Portuguese network of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), which recently recognized António Rios Amorim as the "SDG Pioneer 2024 – Portugal" in the Large Companies category, in recognition of his dedication, innovation, and leadership in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In response to the challenge proposed by the Global Compact, Corticeira Amorim is joining the SDG FLAG DAY campaign. The Global Compact’s #togetherfortheSDGs campaign currently involves hundreds of companies, civil society organizations, schools, and government departments. Each year they raise the flag on September 25th, National Sustainability Day, symbolizing the adoption of the SDGs.
In 2018, Corticeira Amorim aligned its corporate goals with the United Nations SDGs and laid the foundation for the “Sustainable by Nature” program, which sets ambitions to be achieved by 2030.
Corticeira Amorim's sustainability strategy is aligned with 12 of the 17 SDGs and is based on four fundamental pillars:
Currently, Corticeira Amorim's business activity is guided by ten key objectives, focusing on ethics and integrity, value chain, cork oak forests, climate change, circular economy, green products, development, safety, health and well-being, community/society, and innovation.
Corticeira Amorim promotes regular monitoring of the actions outlined in the sustainability program, which includes quantitative objectives, performance indicators, and control procedures. These ensure the reporting of priorities and progress in these areas with comparable levels of rigor and integrity.
Through this initiative, Corticeira Amorim symbolically reaffirms its commitment to the Global Goals and the actions aimed at addressing the world’s major challenges, by raising the SDG flag.
"We are aware that sustainable development is essential to the future of the planet and its people, and that our contribution is relevant. Our culture, practices, and results inspire and encourage many of our stakeholders to also contribute to the five dimensions of the SDGs: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships. A common purpose that can only be achieved through the action and commitment of all."
