The support given by CORTICEIRA AMORIM to this rally - a sport with a strong tradition in Portugal - is aimed not only at promoting the Alentejo, the region of the country with the highest concentration of cork oaks, but also especially at making people aware of the environmental benefits of cork forests, in addition to mitigating the carbon footprint triggered off by this type of races.
"This is the second time that CORTICEIRA AMORIM cooperates with Adega Ervideira Winery and Sociedade Artística Reguenguense and the second time that the enthusiasm of the car race drivers brings an added dimension to an initiative that has more than a symbolic value as we are planting trees that live more than 100 years. This century-old history is not only a legacy of CORTICEIRA AMORIM and Adega Ervideira Winery, but also of the whole Alentejo" said Carlos de Jesus, CORTICEIRA AMORIM's Director of Marketing and Communications.
"Following the plantation of several cork oaks last year, I was pleased to be invited again to repeat the experience. At a time when concerns about environmental issues are increasingly in people's minds, I could not fail to make my contribution, albeit symbolic, towards better welfare for the world" said Joana Sotto-Mayor, the co-driver of the Portuguese rally runner-up Bernardo Moniz da Maia at the Yser Racing Team.
Duarte Leal da Costa, the person responsible for Adega Ervideira Winery said that "the environment is always present at the Ervideira Winery, a reality very important to our business; by planting these 500 cork oaks we are contributing to a better future."
This initiative was a great satisfaction for the rally drivers and all those who spontaneously joined the cork tree planting activity in Herdadinha cork oak plantation, where the prologue of the Ervideira TT Rally started up.
