At the 5th edition of the Glassberries Design Awards, BA joins efforts, for the second time, with Corticeira Amorim – the world’s largest cork producer and supplier – in order to develop a new glass bottle that features a capsulated cork stopper. The development of a full package brings a more realistic view of the wholeset and represents a clear commitment towards innovation within the Premium feel of a glass and cork package. This year, the partnership with Corticeira Amorim is focused on TOP SERIES – a business unit dedicated to the design and production of capsulated cork stoppers that presents to the market truly exclusive and differentiated solutions.
With a history that dates back to the XIX Century, Corticeira Amorim is currently the world’s largest natural cork producer, with annual revenues in excess of 600 million euros generated through sales to more than 22 000 clients in industries as diverse as wine and spirits, aerospace and aeronautics, construction and transportation. But with 4.2 billion stoppers produced every year, it is in wine and spirits that lies Amorim’s corporate DNA and a majority of its revenues, as well as a significant part of its R&D+I efforts that have place the company as the undisputed global leader in its industry.
BA Glass, which was created in 1912, produces glass packaging for the beverage and food industries. BA regards each day as an opportunity to amaze its clients, mainly through bottles and containers that are increasingly appealing and different for the brands they represent. Additionally, BA has been enhancing its business model which is based on permanent innovation and customer orientation, by always having in mind the latest market trends. The trends include lightweight, food safety enhancement, packaging sustainable development and betting in distinctive designs. This is illustrated by the 415 new projects and 139 launched products that BA was involved in during 2015.
This edition of the Glassberries Design Awards will continue to pursue its international scope, by counting on the participation of four Portuguese Universities (Lusíada University, University of Beira Interior, ESAD and University of Aveiro), four Spanish Universities (EINA – Centre Universitari de Dissenyi Art, IED Madrid and EASD – Escola d’Arti Superior de Design e Engenharia de Barcelona) and three Polish Universities (Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, University of Arts in Poznan and Kraków Academy of Fine Arts).
The contact between BA Glass and the young students from these Universities is an excellent opportunity for both parts. On one hand, students will have the chance to live a challenging experience, by always counting on the support of the BA Glass Innovation Team and Corticeira Amorim’s Team in order to better understand how glass packaging is designed and produced and cork’s potential as a material. Simultaneously, this initiative will allow BA Glass to make the best out of participants’ creativity and originality in order to find solutions that are innovative and that are full of potential. This way, Glassberries stands out by the close relationships it tends to create between BA Glass and Universities. Nonetheless, besides fostering the exchange of knowledge between the two parts, this challenge is also a great way of bringing BA Glass closer to its partners and to the student communities.
All sent proposals will be evaluated, as usual, by BA and Corticeira Amorim. In addition, the judging panel will also include some of BA’s clients with experience in the Spirits segment, Drew Smith of Smith Lumen and António Bezerra from Bar Lisboa.
The Awards Ceremony will happen in Madrid during June.
