Corecork® by Amorim, an Amorim Cork Composites brand was the sponsor of a Surfski World Cup race held between 27 and 28 August at Póvoa de Varzim Marina and Azurara beach in Vila do Conde, Portugal.
The participation of Amorim Cork Composites in this event organized by Mar Kayaks, the manufacturer of the famous Nelo kayaks, a Portuguese brand of kayaks, is in perfect alignment with the business relationship between Mar Kayaks and the composites industry and, in particular, the use of cork in the manufacture of kayaks and other nautical vessels.
Cork, in addition to enhancing the technical performance of a kayak (good damping capacity, low resin absorption and good shock, impact and slamming resistance both in fresh and saltwater) is a sustainable material and is ideal to replace, with advantage, technical fabrics and synthetic foam.
All kayaks participating in the race held last August 28 were made with Corecork® by Amorim inside. This business relationship between the cork industry and the kayak building industry dates back to 2008, the year when Nelo kayaks (using already Amorim cork) came out as the big winners of the Beijing Olympics.
