CORTICEIRA AMORIM will be represented through its subsidiary Amorim Cork Composites at the MoMA store - Museum of Modern Art of New York - and in other prestigious international exhibitions of architecture and decoration such as the MADE expo in Milan that will be taking place from next 3 to 6 February.
The Soul Mate collection, a distinctive range of household items, combines cork and faience and has been selected to be sold at MoMA, one of the world's most famous and important modern art museums.
The items will be exhibited at the Destination Portugal space from next May along with a selection of several other Portuguese articles developed from traditional methods and techniques with a strong ability to leverage ecological design.
The growing interest of reputable designers for cork is also shown in "Onion Pinch", a structure fully designed in cork by architects Caterina Tiazzoldi and Eduardo Benamor Duarte, which was produced by Amorim Cork Composites for Experimenta Design, a major international biennial dedicated to design whose last edition was held in Lisbon.
Eduardo Benamor Duarte justifies the choice of cork by its strong identification with Portugal and the excellent performance it offers: "The choice of cork has proven to be critical not only in terms of touch, but also in terms of the structural behaviour of the material. The richness of this raw material and the way how it expresses its flexibility and variability, revealed the spatial potential of the project developed in conjunction with Corticeira Amorim."
Given its innovative concept - largely due to the use of cork, a 100% natural raw material - invitations have been received for the Pinch Onion sculpture to be shown at prestigious international exhibitions. After having been exhibited at Experimenta Design and Compotec, the sculpture will also be shown at important exhibitions focussing on innovation and composites, such as the MADE expo in Milan (February) and the JEC Composites Show in Paris (April).
Note:
Besides the exhibition at MoMA, the Soul Mate collection has also been selected to form part of a select group of exhibits that will be shown at the Ambiente Trends Fair, which is considered the largest international fair of decoration and consumer goods to be held from 12th to 16th February 2010 in Frankfurt.
